CANYON, TEXAS — Saturday's game saw six lead changes and five tied scores, all in the first half – after that the second half saw the Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball shut the door on Nova Southeastern University, resulting in a 78-67 win for the Hounds.
Five Greyhounds (2-4) scored in double digits in the contest, led by Kevin Saiz who had a career high 15 points. Saiz went 5-8 from behind the three-point line, scoring all of his baskets from deep.
Saiz was joined by John Gilliam (14 points), Stephon Edwards (13), Brady Patterson and Arcaim Lallemand, who each had 10 points on the night. Patterson and Lallemand also led the team in rebounds with five a piece.
ENMU's largest lead of the night came with four minutes left to play in the first half, when they took a 29-22 lead over Nova Southeastern (2-3). The Sharks found their biggest lead early in the night, taking a four point lead in the opening minutes of the contest.
Despite the back-and-forth play of the first half, the Hounds went into the locker room with a three point lead that would only grow as the game resumed. Eastern's lead grew as large as 16 points twice throughout the final half, finally settling on the 11 point victory.
The win concludes the 2015 Pak-A-Sak West Texas Thanksgiving Classic, with ENMU going 1-1 during the weekend. The Greyhounds will resume their schedule against Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, on Dec. 2. Tipoff is slated for a 6:00 p.m. (MT) start.
