WICHITA, KAN. — In a complete turnaround from their afternoon match, the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team could never find their rhythm against one of the region's best, falling to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in three sets, 9-25, 18-25 and 15-25.
The Greyhounds (13-17) watched as the Lions (21-3) jumped out to a seven point lead early in the first set. Their lead only grew from there, as the 2015 Heartland conference champions continued to apply pressure and take the first set by 15 points.
The Greyhounds fought back however, only trailing UAFS by three points midway through the second set. Yet, much like the first and upcoming third sets, the Lions put their foot down to keep their lead and eventually win in three sets.
Lauren Frye led ENMU with 10 kills and a .200 hitting percentage. Brooklyn Biel and Laura Landreth added seven and five kills, respectively, while Alexis Aguirre led the team with 27 assists.
The Greyhounds will take on Newman University tomorrow before heading to Kingsville, Texas, to matchup with Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Their match against the Javelinas will be ENMU's last regular season match until the Lone Star Conference Playoffs later this month.
