Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eastern Falls to Midwestern State 64-42

Saturday, February 14, 2015

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team (7-17, 0-11 LSC) fell to Midwestern State University (19-6, 8-3 LSC) 64-42 Saturday, failing to overcome an early 28-5 first half run by the Midwestern.

Lawrence Domingo (Jr., Union City, Calif. / Community Charter Early College HS / Stoneridge Prep) led the Greyhounds with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting while John Gilliam (Jr., San Bernardino, Calif. / Upland HS / Chaffey College)) added 11.

Eastern shot only 16.7 percent from behind the arc while hitting 30.4 percent of their field goals.  Michael Randle (Sr., Houston, Texas / James Madison HS / Paris Junior College) had a game-high eight rebounds to go along with two points.

Midwestern was led by Bretson McNeal who scored 17 points to lead all scorers.  Bretson went 4-of-8 from deep, while the Mustangs shot a blistering 45 percent from the three point line as a team.
At the seven minute mark in the first half, the Greyhounds found themselves down by 23 points to the Mustangs.  Despite what seemed to be a lost cause, Eastern showed just how tough they are by cutting Midwestern's lead in half in the closing minutes of the first period.

Domingo caught fire, scoring nine of the Greyhounds 12 points during a 12-0 run to bring the Mustangs lead back to 11 points.  Unfortunately, Midwestern wasn't finished in the first and managed to add another seven points before heading into the locker room at halftime, up 36-19.

The second half saw much of the same, with Midwestern coming out scoring at will.  Then once again the Greyhounds came surging back, finishing the half only being outscored 28-23.  Eastern did manage to hold the Mustangs to 64 points, 10 lower than their season average of 74.9 pointers per game.

The Greyhounds head home to host Texas A&M Commerce (17-6, 6-4 LSC) in Portales, N.M., Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. (MST).
