PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico women's volleyball team fell to 5-5 on the season Friday after a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 27-25 and 25-22) loss to Texas Woman's University. The Greyhounds tried to mount a comeback in the third and fourth sets but ultimately fell short despite the tremendous effort.
Lauren Frye continued to dominate offensively for the Hounds, recording 20 of the teams 54 kills.
Brooklyn Biel was the only other Greyhound in double figures with 11 kills.
Andrea Aguilar had another stunning defensive performance, finishing with a game-high 24 digs.
Alexis Aguirre contributed heavily on the night, racking up 33 assists.
Despite losing the first two sets 25-16 and 25-18, ENMU came from behind to win the third set 27-25 after falling behind 4-14 early. The fourth set saw the Pioneers trailing for the majority until finally breaking through and walking away with their seventh win of the season.
The Pioneers had a .209 hitting percentage compared to the Hounds at .110. The biggest difference in the match was perhaps errors, with ENMU recording 35 and Texas Woman's at 16.
The Greyhounds will head back to the court tomorrow in their second conference game of the season against Texas A&M University-Commerce. The match will tip off at 1:00 p.m.
