CANYON, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (7-11; LSC 2-6) matched seventh-ranked West Texas A&M (19-1; LSC 8-1) with 29 second-half points, but dropped a 67-45 decision to the Lady Buffs.
Sarah Stinnett paced the Hounds with 11 points and five rebounds, in Saturday's Lone Star Conference game at the First United Bank Center.
The Hounds were limited to 22 percent from the field in the opening half, but shot 47.4 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point range in the second half. Midway through the fourth quarter, ENMU faced a 65-34 deficit, but closed the final 5:18 of play with an 11-2 surge.
Sarah Stinnett fueled the late run with five points, while
Kassandra Harris had four points.
West Texas A&M held a 22-10 lead in points off turnovers. Harris finished with eight points.
Johna McClelland and
Mikaehla Connor each contributed seven points, with McClelland grabbing four rebounds and blocking a pair of shots.
Eliza Martinez also blocked a pair of shots. Michaela Neuhaus paced WT with 15 points.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday to host Texas A&M-Kingsville. The contest will tip off at 5:30 p.m. MT.
