WITCHITA FALLS, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team kept No. 6 Midwestern State within six points for the first 10 minutes of play Saturday, but the Mustangs would start to outpace the Greyhounds as the contest went on, eventually winning 90-56 and handing ENMU its second Lone Star Conference loss of the season.
ENMU (4-10, 0-2 LSC) saw good performances from Lawrence Domingo, Stephon Edwards and Ladarius Stewart. Edwards led the Hounds with 16 points, going 5-12 from the field and 4-6 from the free-throw line. Domingo led the team with 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season while Stewart chipped in with 14 points.
Domingo is averaging eight rebounds and almost 11 points a contest this season. Stewart is second on the team behind ailing senior John Gilliam with 11.6 points per game and is also averaging 6.5 rebounds per contest.
The Mustangs (13-1, 2-0 LSC) shot well across the board, hitting 25-30 free-throws (83 percent), 9-21 3-pointers (43 percent) and 28-61 (46 percent) from the floor. Comparatively, Eastern shot only 15 percent from beyond the arc, 60 percent from the charity stripe and 29 percent from the field.
Midwestern was led by Jordan Stevens who finished the night with 31 points and seven rebounds. Three other Midwestern players scored in double digits as well.
The 56 points put up by the Greyhounds was their lowest scoring output of the season and the deficit to Midwestern was the largest loss suffered by Eastern this season as well. The Mustang's sole loss of the season game at the hands of Colorado State University-Pueblo Nov. 24.
Eastern will head home before taking their longest journey of LSC play, heading to Kingsville, Texas, to take on Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The Javelinas are currently 8-4 (0-1 LSC) pending their matchup with No. 8 Tarleton State University later tonight. Tipoff between the Greyhounds and TAMUK is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (MT) Wednesday, Jan. 13.
