PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University quarterback
Wyatt Strand registered 178 yards of total offense with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns, to lead the Greyhounds (5-4) to a 62-0 victory over visiting Bacone College (2-6). Eastern allowed just three first downs in a first half which saw the Hounds race to a 49-0 lead, Saturday at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.
In its first home shutout win since the 2004 season, ENMU allowed just 129 yards of total offense. The Greyhound defense registered five quarterback sacks, with Tuisamo Magalei and
Dakota Montoya contributing one each. Magalei finished with a team-high nine tackles, while
Quavshaun Branch made an interception. Eastern allowed the Warriors into the red zone just once during the game.
Strand and
Paul Terry tied for the team lead with 67 rushing yards, as seven Greyhounds finished with at least 24 rushing yards, As a team, ENMU ran for 356 yards. Bacone's Jordan White passed for 53 yards on seven completions.
Aaron Johnson hauled in a 48-yard touchdown pass for ENMU, while
Jace Lang had a 31-yard touchdown catch.
Tayshaun Gary added a pair of rushing touchdowns for Eastern.
The Eastern New Mexico University football team will visit Texas A&M-Kingsville next Saturday, while Bacone will host Southwest Assemblies of God.
