PORTALES, N.M. — After a stirring come-from-behind win in the
Wagon Wheel Game, the Eastern New Mexico University football will hit the road this weekend, to face University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The Greyhounds have won their last two contests heading into Saturday's matchup with the Falcons.
In the second half of last week's game against West Texas A&M, Eastern forced three turnovers, which didn't include a late fourth-down stop. As a result, ENMU managed to hold the ball for 21:53 of the final 30 minutes of play.

The Matchup
University of Texas of the Permian Basin joined the Lone Star Conference this season, and this Saturday marks the first-ever meeting against ENMU in football.

With matching 4-0 records, Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce remain the only undefeated teams in the conference. The Greyhounds and West Texas A&M are both 3-2, with Eastern holding a 3-1 mark in LSC play. The Buffaloes and Tarleton State both are 2-1 in league play.

After five games, the Greyhounds rank second in the nation in rushing, with 366.4 yards per game. In the NCAA Division II, Eastern trails only Harding (369 ypg).
Kamal Cass is at the forefront of ENMU's running game and ranks 13th in the nation with 640 yards. ENMU also ranks second in the nation in time of possession (36:30).
In the LSC, Eastern trails only Texas A&M-Commerce in total offense. The Hounds lead the league in rushing by nearly 1,000 yards. ENMU also leads the LSC in total first downs. Cass leads the conference in rushing, while
Tayshaun Gary is ninth (318 yards),
Wyatt Strand is 14
th (219 yards), and
Chivasiay Gallagher is 16
th (134 yards). Cass leads the conference in all-purpose yards.
Defensively
The Hounds run defense is the second-best in the Lone Star Conference and trails only Texas A&M-Kingsville. Last week, the Hounds had four takeaways and allowed just five third-down conversions. ENMU finished the game with eight tackles for a loss.
Special Teams
Bailey Hale had another strong game for the Hounds against WT. He had one touchback on seven kickoffs, and averaged 41.8 yards on four punts, with two downed inside the 20-yard line.

University of Texas of the Permian Basin is 2-2 at home this season, with wins over Sul Ross State and Arizona Christian. Last week, UTPB dropped a 48-20 decision at Tarleton State.
Quarterback Kameron Mathis has tossed six touchdown passes this season and completed 61 passes for 695 yards. Her favorite target, Terrell Davidson, has caught 19 passes for 300 yards and two scores. Montique Coles leads the defense with 53 tackles, while Emilio Soles has a team-best 7.5 tackles for a loss.
