Frye Sets Program Kills Record in LSC Tournament Semifinals

SAN ANGELO, Texas  – Eastern New Mexico University senior Lauren Frye set the all-time program record for kills, but ENMU fell to 13th-ranked Angelo State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-15). The loss moves the Greyhounds to 19-13 on the season and is the most wins by the team since 2004.

Needing one kill to tie and two kills to break the all-time program kills record, senior Lauren Frye picked up two quick kills to cement her name atop the ENMU record books. The Amissville, Va., native passed Christabell Mariner's 1,695 mark. Frye also became the first player in school history to record 1,700 kills.

Senior Talaitupu Faumui led the Greyhounds offense with eight kills and a .500 attack percentage while adding seven digs and a pair of blocks. Junior Brooklyn Biel also had eight kills and led the Eastern defense with four blocks. Senior Courtney Lawson had 11 digs and three kills while Tiana Roebuck dished out 12 assists and had three digs. Junior Andrea Aguilar finished with an impressive 22 digs in the three sets tonight.

Both sides went back-and-forth in the first set, exchanging points until the opening frame was tied at nine. The Rambelles would hold a late 17-14 lead before a 6-1 run by Eastern gave the 'Hounds a 20-18 edge. After a kill by Dietz gave Eastern a 23-22 lead, an error by the Greyhounds and back-to-back kills from Brianna Sotello gave ASU a 1-0 lead in the match.

Angelo State raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Greyhounds would claw their way back into it and tie the set at nine. The Rambelles strung together an 8-2 run, but Eastern would again answer and narrow the score to 22-20. A pair of errors gave ASU the second set, 25-21.

In the final set, ENMU fell behind 7-1 and later 22-10 as the Greyhounds were unable to find any sort of rhythm.
