ARLINGTON, TEXAS — After notching their fifth consecutive win on Saturday night, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team took on NCAA Division I University of Texas-Arlington on Sunday evening.
Sarina Johnson paced the Greyhounds with 15 points, but the Mavericks pulled away for a 65-48 win at College Park Center.
Mikaehla Connor sparked the Greyhounds with two quick layups, as Eastern opened the contest with an 8-2 surge. After one quarter of play, ENMU held a 10-6 lead. UTA retaliated with a 14-2 run, and seized the lead for good, 13-10, on a Miranda LeJune trey with 6:17 left in the first half. The Hounds managed a slim 18-16 lead in fourth-quarter points.
Eastern held a 49-39 edge in rebounding, although the Mavericks enjoyed a 15-10 lead on the offensive glass.
Dasia Johnson grabbed a team-best nine boards, while
Johna McClelland finished with eight caroms.
Brandi Gomez contributed 11 points, while Connor added nine points.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will resume regular-season play on Saturday at the Holiday Hoops Classic, in Las Vegas, Nev. Tip off against Northwest Nazarene is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. MT.
