PORTALES, N.M. — On Thursday morning, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its 2015-16 basketball Academic All-District Honorees. The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team was represented on the District 6 team by senior guard,
Jordyn Cooper.
The last player form the ENMU women's basketball team to garner Academic All-District honors was Stephanie Bailey. She earned second-team laurels for her performance during the 2007-08 season.
The Lone Star Conference was well represented on the eight-player Academic All-District 6 Team, and earned four selections. To be eligible for the nomination a player must meet the following criteria; a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Cooper, a mathematics for secondary education major at Eastern, also was a LSC All-Academic selection last season. With 103 games played over four seasons, Cooper has averaged 6.7 points and connected on 36 percent of her three-point attempts. Over the last eight games, she has averaged seven points and connected on 46.9 percent of her shots outside the three-point line. Cooper scored 14 points, which included a six-for-six performance at the free-throw line, in a win over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Jordyn Cooper and the Greyhounds will play at Cameron University tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MT.
