ATLANTA, Ga. — The Eastern New Mexico baseball team continued to dominate on the diamond, surpassing their largest win of the season on Saturday, shutting out Lane College 16-0.
Daniel Ward had another stupendous night from the plate, hitting a career-high three home runs. Ward also drove in a game-high five RBIs.
Wards three home runs ties Eastern's single game home run record, sharing the spot with Sam George who also hit three homers in Eastern's matchup with College of the South West in 1999. He now leads the team on the season, hitting .500 from the plate.
Keith Kozak got the start for the Greyhounds (4-1), throwing 11 strikeouts and taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Kozak was awarded the win in the seven inning game.
Kozak was relieved by Nicholas DeArmond and Daniel Schiller, who each threw their own scoreless inning. Both pitcher struck out two batters in their lone innings of work from the mound.
Head coach David Gomez said, "We're happy to get Kieith another start. He gave us five strong, shutout innings and really commanded the strike zone. Obviously a big game for Daniel Ward offensively. We were also impressed with Daniel Stubbs in his first start as a freshman and I hope we can carry this success into tomorrow."
Stubbs recorded two hits and drove in two runs in four at bats, making his first start of his career a memorable one.
