CANYON, Texas — Competing in their final road series of the season, the Eastern New Mexico baseball team fell to one of the region's top teams in Saturday's doubleheader, losing to West Texas A&M 5-3 and 3-0.
Getting the start in game one, Keenan Dodd pitched relatively well against the Buffs (32-15, 20-12 LSC) who had been ranked in the top 25 nationally as recent as several weeks ago. Dodd kept the Greyhounds (10-37, 3-29 LSC) within striking distant for five innings, allowing only five runs and eight hits while striking out three batters.
Much like Friday's matchup though, the Buffs pitching proved to dominant, as the Hounds were held to only seven hits and struck out 10 times from the plate. Daniel Schiller finished the game out for Dodd, pitching one full inning while allowing only one hit and no runs.
Chris Padilla had one of his better outings in the game, going 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI. He was the only Eastern player with multiple hits.
The final game of the series saw both teams go somewhat quiet from the plate, with ENMU only recorded six hits and the Buffs nine. Unfortunately for the Hounds, those nine West Texas hits resulted in three runs.
Making his second appearance in as many days, Chris Miranda-Carr had another solid outing for the Greyhounds, pitching five and one-third innings while only allowing six hits and three runs. Miranda-Carr held WT scoreless through three innings until giving up one run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Scott Klein and Michael Holliday also had strong performances on the mound, combining for two and two-third innings while only allowing two hits and one walk. Once again though, the West Texas rotation was keyed in, holding the Hounds scoreless despite struggling from the plate themselves.
Daniel Ward, Justin Paul, Tregra Williams and Dylan Nault all finished the day with two hits, one in each of the two games. Padilla also recorded a hit in the second matchup, resulting in a three-for-seven outing from the plate.
Eastern will return home to prepare for the season finale against Cameron University. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m. (MT). The series will also mark a final farewell to all of the team's seniors.
