TUCSON, ARIZ. — Junior guard
Brandi Gomez shot 40 percent from the floor and paced the defending Lone Star Conference co-champion Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team with 11 points. The Greyhounds dropped a 69-50 decision to NCAA Division I University of Arizona, in the exhibition opener for both teams.
ENMU led for 10:59 of play and enjoyed a 17-13 advantage on the offensive glass. The Hounds shot 57.1 percent in a third quarter which saw them outscore the Wildcats by a 20-19 point margin.
Shelby Jones turned in a strong performance for the Hounds with nine points and four rebounds.
Mikaehla Connor dished out four assists, grabbed six caroms and had four points.
Daeshi McCants added five points and five boards.
The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will continue their exhibition season on Wednesday at University of New Mexico. Tip off at The Pit is scheduled for 7 p.m.
