Hounds Travel to East Texas for Road Challenge

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team travels to Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's on Friday and Saturday for a pair of Lone Star Conference matchups. The Greyhounds (7-9, 4-2 LSC) are currently in a three-way tie for second and only a game behind conference leading Tarleton State.

The Green and Silver went 3-0 this past week, holding serve against Texas-Permian Basin, West Texas A&M and avenging an earlier loss to Lubbock Christian. On Tuesday, ENMU utilized a 9-1 run in the fourth set to clinch the win over the Lady Chaps. Last season, ENMU went 4-1 against the Lions and Pioneers, going 2-0 against TWU and 2-1 against A&M-C, including a 3-0 victory in the first round of the LSC Tournament.
 
• Senior libero Andrea Aguilar is coming off an impressive week in which she earned the LSC Defensive Player of the Week award. The LSC leader in digs racked up 20 in the Hounds win over Lubbock Christian and tallied 36 in the victory over WT. The 36 digs were the fifth-most in a single match in program history and the second most in a four set match. The LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year needs seven digs to move into second place on the all-time list, passing Irma Cobos' mark of 1,653. Aguilar is also a threat from behind the service line. The senior is fourth in the LSC with 21 aces on the year.

• Senior Brooklyn Biel has been a catalyst for the Greyhounds over the past three seasons. The Laveen, Ariz., native came one block shy of setting the all-time single match record with 10 rejections against Cameron earlier this season. The senior needs 15 more blocks on the year to climb into the top-10 list in program history after stuffing six shots on Tuesday. Additionally, Biel is second on the team with 171 kills.

• Senior Alexis Aguirre recorded her 2,000th assist in the Greyhounds win over Colorado Christian earlier this season, becoming just the seventh player in program history to eclipse 2,000. The Artesia, NM, native is coming off an 18 assist performance against rival West Texas A&M. A multi-sport athlete, Aguirre claimed a 20th-place finish in the javelin at the NCAA DII Track and Field Championships.

• Sophomore Sarah Tuioti-Mariner and freshman Jasmine Gannon have made significant contributions this season. Tuioti-Mariner leads the team with 192 kills and has at least 10 kills in 10 of the last 12 matches, including a 22 kill outburst against West Texas A&M. The Corona, Calif., native is third in the LSC with 192 kills on the season. Gannon is currently third on the team with 147 kills and has 12 matches with at least eight kills on the season. The Texico, NM, product racked up 30 kills this past week and hit .313, including a .533 hitting percentage against UTPB and a .471 percentage against Lubbock Christian.
 
• Junior Kaitlyn Kluna has been a strong server for the Hounds all season. The Helotes, Texas, native leads the league with 27 aces on the season. The junior has done a superb job of orchestrating the offense when on the court, dishing out 284 dimes on the year.
