Hounds Continue Home Shutout Streak in Scoreless Tie Against Mustangs

Sunday, October 08, 2017

PORTALES, NM — In their last 328:38 of play at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium, the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (2-6-4; LSC 1-3-2) has not surrendered a single goal to its opposition. On Sunday, the Greyhounds played to a scoreless tie with visiting Midwestern State (8-3-1; LSC 3-2-1) in Lone Star Conference action.

The contest marked the third tie in the series against the Mustangs and the second when the game is played in Portales. The contest was the first non-loss in the series for ENMU since a 1-0 win on October 26, 2014.

"You'd like a win, but when you don't give up goals you're doing something right," Head Coach Ryan Spence said. "We got gifts but didn't capitalize and that's been an issue. Alex (Alejandra Camarillo)played well in there and (Caitlyn) Schmidt was a warrior for us and almost played the whole game."

Beyond the Box Score
  • The contest was ENMU's third straight home shutout
  • The last time Eastern posted three consecutive home shutouts came on October  2009 (#6 West Texas A&M, NM Highlands and Southwestern Oklahoma State)
  • The last goal ENMU gave up came at the 71:22 mark against Texas A&M-Commerce

In the Numbers
  • The Mustangs held a slim 16-15 edge in total shots
  • ENMU enjoyed a 7-5 lead in shots on goal
  • Midwestern State had all 13 corner kicks in the game
