Pitching Dominates as Hounds Roll to 6-0

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team, aided by a stellar performance on the rubber, earned a 10-1 win over Clark Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Eastern improves to 6-0 on the season, marking the best start since the 2007 squad won the first seven games of the year.

Scott Klein (2-0) earned the win after tossing 6.0 innings of three hit ball, allowing just one run while striking out seven. The bullpen took over after Klein exited in the seventh and did not allow a baserunner for the remainder of the contest. Jarron Hill went 2.0 perfect innings with four strikeouts while Blake Frye slammed the door in the ninth with a pair of K's.

Malcom Smith led the surge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, stolen base, RBI and three runs scored. Alex DeLaCruz continued his strong start at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI to go along with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Endy Villalona went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and two walks. Overall, the top three hitters for the Greyhounds combined to go 6-of-11 with two doubles, eight runs, four RBI, five stolen bases and five walks.

Offensively, Eastern struck for two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead before stringing together a pair of crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth.

The Greyhounds return to the diamond tomorrow at noon for a double-header against Morehouse. For all the latest news on ENMU athletics, follow @ENMUBaseball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
