Rogers Limits Angelo State in Opening Game of LSC Doubleheader

Friday, March 10, 2017

PORTALES, NM —Eastern New Mexico University's freshman pitcher Kaylee Rogers limited Angelo State (24-1; LSC 8-0) to four runs in the opening game of Friday's double header. The Greyhounds (13-18; LSC 6-5) nearly rallied past the only team still undefeated in Lone Star Conference action, before dropping a tight 4-3 decision. The Rambelles withstood a late rally to win the nightcap by a 23-8 score.

Junior first baseman Erikka Burke extended her reached-base streak to 13 games. Angelo State boasts the highest scoring team in the LSC, and is the only team in the league with over 200 runs scored this season.

Game 2
The Greyhounds sent 18 batters to the plate over the final two innings of the nightcap. Over the fourth and fifth innings, ENMU scored eight of the game's final 12 runs and pounded out six hits.

Centerfielder Ashley Lopez batted three-for-three in the game, while Samantha Glover drove in three runs. Morgan Hill earned the win with four innings of relief for ASU and scattered eight hits.

Game 1
Courtney Barnhill homered for the Rambelles in the opener and singled in the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning. Eastern rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and nearly tied the game, but Angelo State registered an out at the plate and held on for the win.

Audrey Velasquez, Kylee Keller, Kamalani Peneku, and Lopez each had a hit for ENMU. Rogers fanned six batters and scattered 10 hits. ASU's Brandy Marlett tossed a four-hitter and struck out 17 batters to earn the win.
