Women’s Soccer Falls In Home Finale Against Angelo State

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Angelo State in its final regular season match Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Stadium.

The Belles (10-6-2, 8-3-1 Lone Star Conference) jumped out to the early lead in the third minute when the LSC top goal-scorer Trenadey Scott beat the Eastern (7-8-2, 5-6-1 LSC) defense down the left side and fired a shot past ENMU goalkeeper Taylor Jackson to take the 1-nil advantage.

The Hounds best chance at an equalizer in the half came in the 16th minute, but sophomore forward Keyara Zuniga's shot from the right side was saved and the Belles went into the half with the one-goal edge.

Each team placed a shot on-goal in the opening period, but Eastern out-shot Angelo by a 7-1 margin.

The Hounds had four more opportunities to score a game-tying goal in the second half, the first coming from Charlotte Collins-Blaize at the 55:18 mark, but ASU keeper Kira Miller made a diving save to keep ENMU off the board.

Later in the half, Eastern placed a few more shots on-goal in the 73rd and 77th minutes on shots by senior midfielder Kaitlyn Caro and junior forward Madison Luttrell, but neither shot could find the back of the net.

Eastern's last chance came at the 82:53 mark, but Collins-Blaize's shot off a Belles yellow card was stopped.

Collins-Blaize led the offensive efforts for the Hounds, taking three shots and placing two on-goal, while Caro and Keyara Zuniga each fired three shots as well, placing one apiece on-goal.

Outside of conceding the early goal, the Hounds defense was phenomenal, limiting the Belles to a season-low two shots and one shot on-goal.

After the conclusion of the game, the ENMU women's soccer team honored its four seniors, three playing in their final home match and one student assistant; Caro, Bailey Bosley, Sonny Narvaiz, and Alejandra Camarillo.

Competing in its fifth consecutive LSC Tournament, the Hounds are the No. 5 seed and will play at No. 4 Texas A&M-Commerce at 6 p.m. on  Wednesday, Oct. 31.
