Burke Matches Single-Season Homerun Record in Series Finale

LAWTON, OKLA. — Kiana Zerr drew a bases loaded walk and Elena Garcia followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (16-26; LSC 8-16) a 2-0 lead in Sunday's Lone Star Conference series finale. Cameron (25-11; LC 13-8) managed to rally for a 6-4 win at McMahon Field in the most tightly contested game of the series.

  • Senior Erikka Burke cracked her 14th homer of the season to tie the ENMU single-season record set by Kristen Cruickshank in 2009
  • Burke's 36 career homeruns also is a team record
  • With 42 homeruns, the Greyhounds have matched their 2016 total for second on the single-season list

  • Kimberly Herron limited the Aggies to one run on four hits over four innings
  • ENMU sent seven batters to the plate in the third inning
  • The Hounds scored the first run of the game on a bases-loaded walk to Zerr, which forced Burke home
  • Garcia followed with a sacrifice fly which allowed McElroy to score
  • Alyssa Osterdock homered in the bottom of the fourth to pull CU to within 2-1
  • The Aggies capitalized on an error in the fifth and took a 6-1 lead on a grand slam from Osterdock
  • Parker Smith was struck by a pitch to lead off the Greyhound sixth and Burke followed with a two-out, two-run blast to right center to pull ENMU within  6-4
  • Burke batted 2-for-3 in the game and homered for the second time in her last four games
