PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on 10 first half shots and dropped a 2-0 decision at the hands of East Central in non-conference action inside Greyhound Stadium.
The Hounds surrendered goals in the 30
th and 47
th minute to fall behind the Tigers and never made up ground throughout the contest. Eastern New Mexico outshot East Central by a final total of 15-7, but could manage just four shots on target for the contest.
Eastern maintained control of the pace of the game and totaled five shot attempts in the opening 30 minutes before East Central converted on their first shot attempt of the game at the 30 minute mark. The best opportunity of the match for the Hounds came in the 33
rd minute when a
Hayden Zuniga header off of a corner kick from
Samantha Fabela rattled off the post.
Victoria Nunez nearly put the rebound off of the post into the back of the net, but missed just high as the opportunity came to a close for Eastern. A pair of late set pieces deep in Tiger territory gave Eastern a few more chances to convert, but they were unsuccessful and dropped the first of two home games scheduled for the weekend.
Fabela and
Anahi Hernandez each led the Hounds with three total shots while
Kierra Diaz and
Bailey Bosley recorded two.
Eastern New Mexico will look to rebound after the tough loss on Saturday afternoon against Southern Nazarene in a match scheduled for 12 p.m. inside Greyhound Stadium.
