Hounds Drop 2-1 Decision Against Fort Lewis on Last Second Goal

DURANGO, COLO. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on the road by a final score of 2-1 to Fort Lewis College.

Fort Lewis' Courtney Wamboldt curled in a corner kick with just 18 seconds remaining in the game to secure the 2-1 victory in favor of the Skyhawks. Eastern New Mexico squared the match up in the 79th minute thanks to a Bailey Bosley strike that found the back of the net from near midfield, but were unable to hold onto the tie before regular time expired.

It was another exciting battle for the Hounds as they followed up last week's 1-1 tie at home against St. Mary's with another nail-biting finish in Durango, Colo. on Friday afternoon. Fort Lewis outshot the Hounds by a final total of 19-10, but struggled with the physicality that the Hounds brought to the pitch throughout the evening.

The match remained scoreless all the way until the 69th minute where the Skyhawks chipped in a loose ball in the penalty box to open up a 1-0 lead. Eastern quickly answered with a Bosley goal 10 minutes later and looked to be heading for their second consecutive overtime game, but the late game heroics from Fort Lewis spoiled the Hound's plans.

Bosley led the way with two shots for the Hounds while Morgan Zuniga, Caitlyn Schmidt, and Victoria Nunez each registered a shot on goal attempt as well.

Eastern New Mexico will have a short turn around as they wrap up their road trip with a match against Adams State in Alamosa, Colo. scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
