SILVER CITY, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds finished off their season with a 3-1 win against rival Western New Mexico University.
The Greyhounds started off making the right hits as they took the first two sets away from the Mustangs. A step back in the third led to a fourth set where the Hounds dominated with a .235 hitting percentage over a .182 percent from the Mustangs.
Going back to back in the first set, the Hounds won by two after a serve error from the Mustangs. Heading into the second the Hounds were able to continue their momentum and take a 25-21 win off 13 attack errors and a negative hitting percentage from the Mustangs. Taking the lead early on the Greyhound controlled the game as the fourth set continued play.
Although both teams kept a close eye on each other in stats, the Hounds came out on top hitting a .235 percentage with 34 attack attempts. Julie Tucker led the hounds with 12 points and 10 kills beating her season high by one set back in September. Gracelyn Stubbs followed close behind Tucker with 12 points and 9 kills. Stubbs also led the Hounds in hitting percentage with a .467.
Sophomore Rae Sapiga recorded 20 assists, and two serving aces.
The Greyhounds will wait to see if they are invited to the Lone Star Conference Tournament set to start November 19th.
