Women's Soccer Off to Best Start in Greyhound History After 1-0 Victory Over Fort Lewis

PORTALES, N.M. The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team defeated Fort Lewis 1-0 Saturday afternoon for its third consecutive victory, as the team is off to its best start in school history.

25 minutes into the match, Redshirt-Sophomore Desiree Morgas deposited her second goal of the season in the top right corner off a perfectly placed left foot shot as the Skyhawks keeper had no play on the ball. Through the first three games the Hounds have relied on their relentless defense which has yet to relinquish a goal.

Freshman Kinsie Mitchell sent a terrific through ball deep from Easterns defensive zone as Morgas bolted past the Fort Lewis defenders and buried the ball into the net. The first half remained fairly even as both squads recorded five shots however, the Hounds struggled to create any offensive push in the second as they were out-shot 9-0 in the final 45 minutes.

Junior keeper Whitney Dockweiler turned in another strong performance after completing her third shutout on the year, the best mark in the Lone Star Conference. The Bellevue, Neb. native finished with a season-high seven saves.

Second year Head Coach Josh Smith has done a great job creating depth amongst his program as 19 field players logged minutes throughout the contest.

The Green and Silver will look to continue their historic start as they wrap-up non-conference play next week against Southern Nazarene Saturday, Sept. 21 at 12 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
