Odessa, Texas – Eastern New Mexico went down to the wire in a game that almost saw overtime play as the Hounds defeated UT Permian Basin 100-97.
The Hounds impressed on both sides of the court as four players hit double digits with
Devin Pullum recording 26 points for the contest. On the other side of the court the Hounds outrebounded the Falcons taking 24 defensive boards for a total of 35 rebounds to the Falcons 28.
ENMU saw their second highest percentage shooting from the free-throw line as the team connected on 22-26 free-throws finishing the night with an 84.6 percent. The Hounds also impressed from beyond the arc connecting on 14-28 three-pointers for a solid 50.0 percent, their third highest this season.
Once again the Hounds were able to establish themselves on the score board early but it was a back and forth match for the remainder of the first half. With five minutes left on the clock, the Hounds were down by eleven points until
Brandon Meadows went on his own seven point run after nailing a three pointer and drawing fouls on his next two jumpers.
In the last five minutes of the half the Hounds defense only allowed five points from the Falcons as they went on a 16-5 point run. With under thirty seconds left
Jose Serrano passed it out to
Devin Pullum who swished a three-pointer to tie the game 49-49 before the halftime break.
Hot from first half action the Hounds took control coming back onto the court.
Devin Pullum knocked down another three as the Hounds went on a 14-1 scoring run in the first three minutes of the second half. By the seven minute mark the Falcons had caught up to the Hounds and tied it 85-85. Two more ties would occur before the Hounds regained their lead.
A one point lead and under a minute to play,
Devin Pullum slowed the ball down just past the half court line. Pullum dished the ball out to
Garrick Sherrod who went in for a jumper – missed, but a rebound by
Yosnier Cobas and a put back gave the Hounds a three point led. The Falcons respond with a three pointer to tie the game with two seconds on the clock, but after checking the play again the refs change the shot to a two pointer. The Hounds took the ball out with a one point led and two seconds on the clock. A pass to
Devin Pullum who drew a foul and knocked down two free-throws secured the Hounds win.
Devin Pullum broke his season high scoring 26 points for the contest. The junior guard from Texas also grabbed three steals and five defensive rebounds.
Brandon Meadows hit a career high 16 points shooting a percent 100 from the free-throw line connecting on all six free-throws.
Isaiah Murphy finished the night with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot.
Jose Serrano was the fourth Hound to score double-digits as he recorded 13 points for the night. Serrano also grabbed four rebounds, dished out an assist and caught one steal.
The Greyhounds head back to Portales, N.M. for a Thursday night game against Lubbock Christian at 7:30 p.m.
