LUBBOCK, TX – Eastern New Mexico softball finished the double-header Saturday with two losses falling to Tarleton State and Lubbock Christian.
Freshman
Mackenzie Shaw recorded one home run and five RBI's against the Texans while turning around for another home run and RBI against LCU.
Adriana Carabajal followed with two runs, two hits against TSU and a lone hit against LCU.
Starting off the afternoon taking the field against Tarleton State and
Mackenzie Shaw singled with the bases loaded taking
Adriana Carabajal home. But the play didn't end there, off a bad throw Shaw took second while two more Hounds crossed home plate.
Jordan Bowman took the circle and only allowed TSU a lone run in both the first and second inning. Back up to bat, Shaw homered out to left field sending herself and Carbajal across the plate taking the Hounds up 5-2. Unknowingly the Hounds wouldn't find another chance to touch home base. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth as the Texans stirred up the pot taking the led as the Hounds fell 7-5.
The Greyhounds stayed on the field for the second match up of the day against Lubbock Christian. The Hounds saw potential on the left side as the first three batters shot it left. After a double to the left Rodriguez made her way to third base.
Adriana Carabajal sent a bunt to the left side allowing Rodriguez to sneak through to home base. With the bases empty,
Mackenzie Shaw knocked out her second home run of the day giving the Hounds a 2-0 led. Responding with two runs of their own, the Chaps tied up the contest. The Hounds loaded the bases in the second but were unable to bring anyone home as both teams headed into the third try scoreless. Bottom of the fourth the Hounds couldn't control the Chaps eventually falling in the fifth inning 10-2.
The Greyhounds will return to the field tomorrow for a morning matchup against UT Permian Basin at 11:00 a.m. and an afternoon game against West Texas A&M scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Hounds will rest up next week as they prepare for an opening series against UT Permian Basin on March 6
