Greyhound Softball Ends Double Header Sunday 1-1; Hounds take a 14-9 win over UTPB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, TX – Eastern New Mexico finished 1-1 in double-header action taking a 14-9 win against UT Permian Basin before falling 21-7 to West Texas A&M.

Azalea Martinez had her best game as a Greyhound scoring a three home runs in three at-bats. The Freshman also recorded four RBI's against the Falcons. Tianna Boone, a freshman infielder scored her second home run of the season against the Falcons. Boone sent it home in her only chance up to bat sending three and herself across home plate.

The Greyhounds started out strong against UT Permian Basin scoring five runs in the first two innings. Elysa Rodriguez, first up to bat for the Hounds, took first base after being hit by a pitch and turned around to steal second. Jokaria Paredes shot it through the center taking second as Rodriguez went home scoring the first points of the game. Bottom of the second, Azalea Martinez, with Adriana Carabajal on third, hit a home run taking both Hounds home for a 4-1 led. The Falcons responded adding three runs in the third while the Hounds took hit as UTPB went up 8-5 top of the fourth. Needing a comeback, Azalea Martinez hit her second home run of the day firing up the Greyhound squad.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Tianna Boone hit another Greyhound home run sealing the deal as the Hounds finished the contest with a 14-9 win over the Falcons.

The Hounds came back to the field for the final game of the weekend against West Texas A&M. Struggling in the first two innings, the Hounds were unable to get a batter past first base. Top of the third, Mackenzie Patterson stepped up to the plate and doubled after a hit to the right. Elysa Rodriguez caught a throwing error sending her to first while Jokaria Paredes stepped up to take on the Buffs pitcher.  Sending it out to second base, Paredes took first while Patterson crossed home plate for the Hounds first run of the contest.

Heading into the fourth, the Hounds sent six across home plate after back to back home runs from Tianna Boone and Jenny McElroy.  Despite catching a new wave of energy, the Hounds were unable to come back falling by double digits to the Buffs.

Eastern New Mexico will take the weekend off has they prepare for the first home series of the 2020 season. The Hounds will welcome UT Permian Basin for a Friday, March 6th double-header.
