PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team kicked off the Homecoming Weekend slate for Greyhound Athletics with a Lone Star Conference contest against St. Edward's University. The Hounds were handed a tough 3-1 loss by the Hilltoppers.
Sarah Preston opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a well-placed free kick from 25 yards out.
With just under two minutes remaining in the first half, Katie Gay received the ball in the box and dodged a defender to score and put her team up 2-0.
The Greyhounds responded in the 73rd minute when
Samantha Vasquez scored on a long free kick into the upper right-hand corner of the net to cut the deficit in half.
However, Preston netted her second of the game with less than 10 minutes remaining on a nearly identical free kick set up as her first half tally.
Eastern continued to battle but ultimately fell, 3-1.

- Whitney Dockweiler made eight saves in net.
- For the Hilltoppers, Abby Carlson recorded four stops.
- Vasquez's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
- Selena Casias and Alda Tarrado Montoliu paced the team in shots with two each.
- The Hilltoppers outshot the Greyhounds, 16-11.
- St. Edward's also held the advantage on corner kicks, 7-2.

- The Hilltoppers now lead the overall series, 4-0.
- The Hounds are now 2-7 overall and 0-4 in LSC play, while St. Edward's is 4-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
