St. Edward's Hands ENMU 3-1 Loss

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team kicked off the Homecoming Weekend slate for Greyhound Athletics with a Lone Star Conference contest against St. Edward's University. The Hounds were handed a tough 3-1 loss by the Hilltoppers.

Sarah Preston opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a well-placed free kick from 25 yards out.

With just under two minutes remaining in the first half, Katie Gay received the ball in the box and dodged a defender to score and put her team up 2-0.

The Greyhounds responded in the 73rd minute when Samantha Vasquez scored on a long free kick into the upper right-hand corner of the net to cut the deficit in half.

However, Preston netted her second of the game with less than 10 minutes remaining on a nearly identical free kick set up as her first half tally.

Eastern continued to battle but ultimately fell, 3-1.
