Lady Buffs Defeat Greyhounds, 3-1

CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer team traveled to nearby Lone Star Conference rival, West Texas A&M University on Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds were handed a 3-1 loss. 

West Texas opened the scoring about five minutes into the contest with a tally from Hannah Kelley-Lusk.

In the 12th minute, Kelsey Medina sent in a shot that bounced back off the post. She gathered the rebound and drilled a shot into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.

Just over ten minutes later, Emily Avila put the Lady Buffs back on top with a goal from the top of the box.

WT continued to extend its advantage in the second half with a goal from Asha James in the 77th minute of play.

Both teams worked hard defensively through the rest of the contest and ultimately the Lady Buffs came away with the 3-1 win.
 

NOTABLE STATS

  • The Lady Buffs held a 36-13 shot advantage throughout the contest. They also led in shots on goal, 18-5.
  • Medina's goal was her first as a Greyhound.
  • Haley Huff and Medina paced the ENMU offense with three shots each.
