CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team opened up play at the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic Friday night. Southwestern Oklahoma State University handed the Greyhounds a 99-82 loss.
Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the contest, but the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run (15:56-14:13) to take a 20-7 lead and never looked back.
Southwestern Oklahoma State led by as many as 23 points twice in the frame and ended the first half with a 53-33 advantage.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 7-0 run. They stretched out their lead to 33 points with just under 15 minutes remaining to be played.
Eastern battled back however, going on a 10-0 run (7:25-4:24) to cut the deficit to just 10 points. The Hounds continued to attempt the comeback, coming within 10 points of the lead multiple times. That's as close as ENMU would get though, as SWOSU went on to secure the 99-82 victory.
NOTABLE STATS
- Adam Hess paced the Greyhound offense with 18 points. Yosnier Cobas added 14 points, while Kentrell Pullian was close behind with 13 points. Marvin Mapaga rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
- Defensively, Cobas pulled down seven rebounds.
- James Jordan had a team-high three steals.
- The Hounds finished shooting 49.9 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent at the free throw line.
- For the Bulldogs, Chris Braggs Jr. led all scorers with 19 points. Deangelo Adkins pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- ENMU shifts to 2-3 overall on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-2.
- SWOSU leads the overall series, 30-17.
- The Greyhounds are back in action Saturday, November 27 to close out the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic with a 6:30 p.m. game against Oklahoma Baptist University.
