ODESSA, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico rodeo program kicked off the spring schedule at the Odessa College Wrangler Rodeo this past weekend. The women's team finished third with 167.5 points behind Texas Tech University (215 points) and Tarleton State (175 points).
Madelyn Schauer was the All-Around woman with 112.5 points. In the breakaway roping, she went 2.6 seconds on her first calf to split sixth and then was 2.7 seconds in the short go to place third. She split third and fourth place in the average.
In goat tying, Schauer recorded a time of 7.2 seconds to split fifth and sixth place in the first go. She then was sixth place in both the short go and the average.
Also placing in the women's breakaway roping were
Shacie Marr and
Lauren Ann Hopkins. Marr went 2.5 seconds in the first go to split second, third, fourth, and fifth place but did not place in the short go or average. Hopkins went 2.9 seconds in the first go and short go to place sixth in both the short go and average.
Hannah Hughes won the first go with a time of 2.5 seconds but did not place in the short go or average.
Carson Mills recorded a time of 2.9 seconds in the first go to make it back to the short go but did not place.
Overall in the women's breakaway roping there were 147 ropers. Of the 14 that came back to the short go, five were from Eastern.
On the men's team,
Trey Jackson went 4.8 seconds in the first go of the steer wrestling to make it back to the short go where he placed second with a time of 4.0 and was fifth in the average. Jackson is currently winning the steer wrestling in the region.
The Hounds will host the ENMU College Daze Rodeo on March 18-20. All events will be held at the Mallet Event Center in Levelland, Texas.
