UTPB Holds Women's Soccer To 1-0 Defeat

Penalty in the 41st minute was the difference between the two teams.

PORTALES, N.M. – Despite dominating portions of the game, Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer fell 1-0 against UTPB on Wednesday evening at Greyhound Stadium. ENMU slip to 4-8-1 on the season, while UTPB improve to 5-5-2 overall. In conference play, the Greyhounds move to 2-5-1, with the Falcons moving to 3-4-1.

Eastern put the pressure on from the start, finding the first shot on goal from Haley Huff in the 26th minute. Huff brought down a cross from the left wing but couldn't fully connect with the ball as the UTPB goalie claimed the shot. The Greyhounds thought they scored has Abby Ditzler headed a looping ball over the goalkeeper, but a goal-line clearance from UTPB kept the score at 0-0. Just before first half whistle, the Falcons were awarded a penalty for a foul in the penalty area. Laura Perez dispatched the penalty to give UT Permian Basin a 1-0 lead at the break.
 
The Greyhound pushed for the equalizing goal from the second half kickoff, with Hannah Grady testing the Falcons goalie in the opening moments. Sofia Trejo and Sierra Villanueva each had an effort on goal as ENMU kept getting closer and closer. However, the Falcons defense held strong defensively to hold out for a 1-0 win over ENMU.

  • Samantha Jeffries made three saves in net for ENMU.
  • Jenna McEnaney produced seven saves to deny the Greyhounds.
  • Ditzler lead the team with three shots, and three shots on goal, during the game. Five other student-athletes produced a shot in the game.
  • UTPB finished with a match high 10 shots, compared to ENMU's eight. ENMU had eight shots on goal compared to the four from UTPB.
  • The Falcons committed 11 fouls during the match, with ENMU finishing with seven.
