Women's Soccer Falls To #15 West Texas A&M, 4-1

Samantha Vasquez scored for the Greyhounds, with Haley Huff providing the assist.

PORTALES, N.M. – A late goal from Samantha Vasquez served as a consolation for Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer, as the Greyhounds were dealt a 4-1 defeat against #15 West Texas A&M on Wednesday evening at Greyhound Stadium. ENMU move to 4-10-1 overall with a conference standing of 2-7-1, meanwhile WT advance to 12-1-2 on the year along with a 6-1-2 conference record.

The Lady Buffs wasted no time to find the back of the net, with Emily Avila scoring from a free kick in the opening five minutes of the contest to go ahead 1-0. ENMU's backline was under threat again soon after with Maria-Frances Serrant forcing Samantha Jeffries into a stop. Shortly after, Serrant did find the back of the net, following a cut back from Maliyah Mendoza to push the WT lead to 2-0.

Eastern were pinned into their own half as the WT pressure made it difficult to manufacture any chances in the final third. Just before the end of the period, Serrant was through on goal again to score the third goal of the match and their second of the contest, 3-0 WT at the break.

After the restart, Serrant completed their hat-trick just 19 seconds into the second frame to go ahead 4-0. Serrant was played in over the top from Avila, with the forward knocking the ball over the onrushing Jeffries. However, ENMU would respond with a goal of their own. Vasquez picked up possession after venturing forward from defense and found Haley Huff, who played the ball back to Vasquez. Vasquez then shot from 30 yards, with the ball finding the top corner left corner past the back-pedaling Reagan Heelan, 4-1 WT.

As the match continued, Jeffries repelled five more efforts towards goal from the Lady Buffs with Vasquez nearly scoring again in the final moments with their shot going wide. The contest eneded 4-1 for the Lady Buffs
