PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball Head Coach
Meghan De los Reyes has announced the addition of two more members of the Greyhound roster for the 2022-23 season.
KiKi Roberts and Ashley Shipley join the 2022-23 roster, with Roberts coming to Portales as a first-year student and Shipley joining as a college transfer. Both Shipley and Roberts join Marly Freeman, Deja Adrian, and Corin Camara as part of the first signing class for De los Reyes.
Roberts joins Eastern after a great high school career at Vanden H.S. The Vacaville, Calif. native helped their team to a 26-4 record, competing in 26 games scoring 10.5 points per game and pulling down 8.1 rebounds per game. Additionally, Roberts contributed 3.2 steals per game and supplied 0.5 blocks per game. Roberts helped Vanden H.S. win the 2022 CIF Division 3 Sac-Joaquin Section Girls Basketball Playoffs and reach the 2
nd round of the 2022 CIF Division 1 State Girls Basketball Championship.
"We are incredibly excited to have KiKi join our Greyhound Family! She is one of those players who impacts every single aspect of the game," said De los Reyes. "KiKi does a great job attacking the basket and drawing fouls, chasing down rebounds, and guarding multiple positions on the floor. Not to mention, she's a fantastic student and teammate who will contribute to our community immensely both on and off the court," said De los Reyes.
Shipley returns to the Land of Enchantment after spending two seasons at LSC rival Texas A&M-Commerce. While with the Lions, Shipley played in 27 games totaling 41 points and 20 rebounds, including career best eight points on two occasions. In Commerce, Shipley finished as a runner up in the LSC twice, and claimed the 2021 LSC North Division crown. Before heading to Texas, Shipley was a standout at Tucumcari High School earning three 3A First Team All-State nods, and finishing their last season scoring 21.1 points per game with 9.2 rebounds per game.
"Ashley provides instant energy," said De los Reyes. "She takes pride in doing all of the little things and brings us toughness. Ashley takes charges, sprints hard both ways, and is a total gym rat who will do whatever it takes to win and lift up her teammates," said De los Reyes. "She's a great defender who can score in various ways and we are thrilled to have her back in New Mexico as a Greyhound,".
Eastern New Mexico women's basketball qualified for the postseason for the seventh time in the last eight seasons in 2021-22, in in the first year of the De los Reyes era. This past season, the Greyhounds reached the first round of the LSC Conference Tournament before bowing out.
Iyanna McCurdy and
Natalie Stice both received all-conference recognition after the season, with McCurdy being named to the All-LSC Second Team and Stice received an honorable mention.
