PUEBLO, COLO. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer started the season on the right note with a 1-0 win over CSU-Pueblo, on Thursday evening at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. The Hounds move to 1-0-0 on the year, while the Thunderwolves stand at 0-1-0.
The Greyhounds asserted themselves in the opening stages of the first half recording the first shot just inside the first few minutes. Not long after,
Tori Galindo opened the scoring with a flicked header at the near post to put Eastern in front.
The counterattacking goal started from a CSU-Pueblo turnover, with the ball falling
Caroline Jensen. Jensen played a through ball to
Kelsey Medina on the left wing, with Galindo heading the cross past the Thunderwolves keeper. The Hounds went into the locker room ahead 1-0, holding the home team to no shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
Eastern had a chance to double its lead with
Hannah Grady's long-range effort being denied by the Nicole Genis in the Pueblo net. Up to this point, ENMU netminder
Samantha Jeffries wasn't tested much, making their first save at the 62
nd minute. However, the Thunderwolves turned up the pressure, put six more shots onto Jeffries net in the final 25 minutes.
The Eastern defense withstood the Thunderwolves attack for the final minutes, picking up a 1-0 win on the road over CSU-Pueblo.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- ENMU now leads the series 3-2 after the win and have won its last two meetings with CSU-Pueblo.
- Six Hounds played the entire 90 minutes: Jeffries, Grady, Sierra Villanueva, Kinsie Mitchell, Selena Casias, and Elita Casias during the clean sheet.
- Five Greyhounds made their collegiate debuts: Jeffries, Jensen, Ashley Sexton, Brianna Eye, Abby Ditzler, Sofia Trejo, and Sydney Saxon, while Grady made played their first game for Eastern.
