PORTALES, N.M. – Alex Sariñana has joined the Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball program from Central Wyoming College, as announced by Head Coach
Meghan De los Reyes.
Sariñana becomes the ninth signing of the 2022 class, joining
Marley Freeman,
Deja Adrian,
Corin Camara,
KiKi Roberts,
Ashley Shipley,
Julieta Ceja, Edecia Beck, and
Lazurea Saunders.
Before landing in Portales, Sariñana spent two seasons at Central Wyoming College competing at the junior college level. In 2021-22, Sariñana competed in 27 games for the Rustlers posting 12.8 points per game, along with a 33.7% shooting percentage from the field. Sariñana provided 345 points during the season, including posting 20+ points in six games, with a season high of 26 points.
"Alex is a great addition to our backcourt to round out a versatile and skilled recruiting class. She is a quick and aggressive guard who will help push our pace in transition, knock down open shots and hound the ball on the defensive end," said De los Reyes. "Alex comes to us with experience as a proven scorer during her two years at Central Wyoming College while also leading her team in steals. We are excited to welcome Alex to our Greyhound Family, and we are grateful to have another competitive and hardworking student-athlete to complete the puzzle," said De los Reyes.
Eastern New Mexico women's basketball qualified for the postseason for the seventh time in the last eight seasons in 2021-22, in in the first year of the De los Reyes era. This past season, the Greyhounds reached the first round of the LSC Conference Tournament before bowing out.
Iyanna McCurdy and
Natalie Stice both received all-conference recognition after the season, with McCurdy being named to the All-LSC Second Team and Stice received an honorable mention.
