Women's Soccer Slip In Conference Opener, 3-0, To Midwestern State

A goal just before halftime, and two goals in the second half pushed MSU past Eastern

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer were held 3-0 against Midwestern State in a Lone Star Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at Greyhound Stadium. The Greyhounds move to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in LSC play, while the Mustangs move to 2-2 on the year with a 1-0 conference record.

Both teams went back and forth over the first ten minutes of action, but the Mustangs earned the first shot of the contest around the 14th minute. Shortly after, Samantha Jeffries was called into a flying save as a header was goal bound. Each team worked for possession with the Greyhounds having a good chance in the 34th minute.
 
Selena Casias burst forward through the midfield, sending a shot towards the top right corner, but the Mustangs goalie made a fine save to force a corner kick. The Greyhounds were hoping to head to halftime scoreless, but the Mustangs broke the deadlock with a fine finish outside the area to go ahead 1-0. The score would stay that way going into the locker room, 1-0 MSU.
 
After the intermission, MSU wasted no time to get a second goal on the board, scoring around the 50-minute mark. Shortly after, Tori Galindo came close to scoring with a long-range effort hitting the crossbar, and a header going just wide a few minutes later. Midwestern State picked up a third at the 66th minute and held out to win 3-0 against the Greyhounds.
