Hounds come up short in tussle with DI Tarleton State

Texans best the Greyhounds in a battle between former conference rivals

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – On the national stage, ENMU football battled in a 41-6 decision at Division I Tarleton State Saturday night.

The Hounds began the first defensive drive of the contest with an early stop to hold the Texans off the scoreboard.

Tarleton State took the following possession and got the scoring action started.

After a poor punt from the Texans, the Hounds held the best starting field possession from inside the TSU 40-yard line. The drive was ended early, but Cooper Hamilton did not let ENMU leave the field empty handed as he nailed a career-high 50-yarder to put the score at 7-3 in the middle of the first quarter.

The Texans continued to push ahead two drives later and extended their lead to 24-3, but the Hounds kept the score at that mark thanks to a pair of great defensive stops before the half ended.

In the final seconds of the third quarter ENMU got another field goal from Hamilton coming from 28-yards.

The Texans added the last score of the game in the fourth quarter and made sure the Hounds were not able to pull off the upset.

"Proud of the effort by our team tonight. At many times during the game it would have been easy to pack it in and give up, but our kids kept fighting," said head coach Tye Hiatt. "Now our focus moves back onto the Lone Star Conference as we get ready for a big conference matchup. I'm excited to see the improvements our team will make this week and we are looking forward to the game down in Kingsville."

The Greyhounds kicker is still perfect on the season, including four field goals and five extra point attempts.

ENMU travels to Texas A&M-Kingsville for a 6 p.m. MT clash with the Javelinas. The game will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
