Volleyball Falls To DBU, 3-0

Greyhound next match is set for Wednesday, Sept. 28

DALLAS, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball closed out the weekend with 3-0 loss against Dallas Baptist University. The Greyhounds slip to 9-7 overall, with a 0-4 record in the LSC play. The Patriots improve to 12-3 overall, while holding a 3-1 conference standing.
 
Dallas Baptist jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening points of the first set. The Greyhounds would go on to trade points with DBU, leaving the score at 15-10. A 6-1 stretch from DBU brought the score to 21-11. The Greyhound put together a late relay, but DBU finished the set on top 25-19.
 
The Greyhounds started the second set with four straight points with Adriana Puni finding a kill. DBU brought the score back to take the lead 12-11, but that started a 4-0 run for the Hounds to retake a 15-12 lead. However, a 7-1 stretch put the Patriots in poll position. The Hounds did their best to comeback, but DBU finished on top 25-22.
 
The third set opened with each team finding points, but a 5-0 stretch put the Patriots ahead 10-5. Eastern brought things back tied at 14-14 following a 6-1 run. However, DBU closed the match on a 11-4 run, taking the set 25-18.

NOTABLE STATS

  • DBU out-hit the Hounds 42 kills to 22 kills. The Patriots found 54 digs, compared to the Greyhounds 34.
  • Kali Nelson led the Hounds with nine kills during the game, while Puni provided seven kills in the effort.
  • Qitana Sapiga supplied eight assists in the match, with Jaylynn Nihipali adding seven assists.
  • Puni and Getsemani Carrasco paced ENMU with nine digs each.
  • Gracelyn Stubbs finished the match with three total blocks, while Nelson finished with one block.

"We played a better match today than the day before," said Head Volleyball Coach Sia Poyer. "But we were short-handed today".

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Greyhounds played DBU for just the second time in a conference match.
  • Eastern return to Greyhound Stadium for their next contest, as Texas Woman's University come to Portales for a midweek contest, on Wednesday, Sept. 28, with a 6 p.m. start time.
