DURANGO, COLO. – Two goals in the first half sunk Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer, 2-0, against Fort Lewis College at Dirks Field on Thursday evening. Eastern move to 2-2 on the season, while Fort Lewis moves to 1-3-1 overall.
Fort Lewis started the game on the front foot, having a shot hit the crossbar then forcing
Samantha Jeffries into a good save within the first five minutes. However, the initial opening pressure led to the first goal for the Skyhawks in the 12
th minute. After recovering possession, FLC picked out the top right corner from outside the box to go ahead 1-0.
Over the next ten minutes, ENMU struggled to break up the Fort Lewis possession with Jeffries being called into action on a few occasions. The persistence led to the Skyhawks next goal, after another long shot found the top corner, 2-0 FLC. The score would remain 2-0 heading into the intermission.
Each team began the half retaining possession, but not able to create any clear chances. The first save of the second half came at the 64
th minute, with Jeffries making a comfortable stop. The next Fort Lewis threat came in the 81
