Hilltoppers Sneak Past Women's Soccer, 1-0

Greyhounds led the match with 14 shots on Sunday afternoon.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer dropped a 1-0 contest to St. Edward's on Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Stadium. ENMU now stand at 1-5-4 overall along with a 0-3-1 conference record. The Hilltoppers improve to 4-2-1 with a 3-1 conference record.

During the first 15 minutes of the match, both teams fought for possession with each team recording just one shot. The Hilltoppers opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game, with a well struck shot from 25 yards in the top left corner. ENMU responded with a pair of shots on net, with Sarah Tate testing the St. Edward's keeper twice. The first half ended with the visitors ahead, 1-0.
 
Following the intermission, each team quickly recorded a shot on goal with Haley Huff going close for the Greyhounds. From that point, neither team was able to create promising chances with the match ending 1-0 SEU.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Huff led the Greyhounds with three shots and two on goal. Sierra Villanueva finished with three shots, while Tate had two shots during the match. Samantha Jeffries faced 11 shots in net, recording two saves.
  • Caitlyn Gonzalez scored the vital goal for St. Edward's, with Katie Gay providing and assist. Three different Hilltoppers had two shots in the match. Daria Schlumbohm played all 90 minutes in net, making four saves during the shutout.
  • ENMU supplied 14 shots (four shots on goal) during the match, with St. Edward's finding 11 shots (three shots on goal). Both teams committed eight fouls, while ENMU held the edge on corners (3-1).
