PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer dropped a close 1-0 game with Texas Woman's at Greyhound Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Hounds slip to 1-6-4 overall with a 0-4-1 conference record. Meanwhile, the Pioneers stand at 9-1-1 with a 4-1-0 Lone Star Conference record.
Both teams had few chances in the opening 45 minutes, with both teams hitting the woodwork in the opening 15 minutes. A couple of routine saves for both goalies closed the first period, 0-0 at the break.
At the start of the second period, Texas Woman's were pushing the Greyhounds defense forcing two corners in the opening seven minutes. From a corner kick, the Pioneers scored the opening goal with a header at the back post. As the match dwindled away, the Greyhounds applied pressure in the final 10 minutes, but the ENMU did not find an equalizing goal with the match finishing 1-0 TWU.
NOTABLE STATS
- Sarah Tate led the Greyhounds with four shots and two shots on goal. Brianna Eye also helped the offense with three shots and two shots on goal. Samantha Jeffries made four stops in goal.
- Erica Brelove scored the winning goal for TWU, with Rayne Islas providing an assist. Halee Avery led Texas Woman's with three shots, while five different Pioneers had a shot on goal. Amanda Farris picked up their eighth clean sheet of the season, making four saves.
- Both teams were close in shots, with Texas Woman's holding a 11-10 advantage over the Greyhounds. Both teams found five shots on goal during the game. ENMU doubled the Pioneers for fouls, 14-7.
