Second Half Goal Sinks Women's Soccer, 2-1

ODESSA, Texas – A back and forth contest landed in favor of the home team, as Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer fell on the road 2-1 against UT Permian Basin. The Greyhounds move to 1-11-4 on the season, with a 0-9-1 conference standing. Meanwhile, the Falcons shift to 4-5-5, with a 2-3-4 conference record.
 
UTPB wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring with the shot of the match in the seventh minute. The Falcons continued their hot start, forcing three saves from Samantha Jeffries in the Greyhound net over the next 20 minutes. Eastern found a lifeline as Kinsie Mitchell headed in an Emma Hafenbrak corner kick, bringing the score level at 1-1 going into halftime.
 
 
As the second period began, the Falcons quickly found a pair of shots on goal, but ENMU held strong defensively. ENMU found a pair of shots shortly after, but UT Permian Basin regained the lead with just 17 minutes to play in the match. ENMU fired five shots towards goal in the remaining time, but the Falcons held on for a 2-1 final.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Mitchell scored the equalizing goal for the Greyhounds, with Hafenbrak delivering the corner kick. Mitchell also led ENMU with five shots in the match and two shots on goal. Haley Huff added three shots and one shot on goal. Jeffries made five saves during the match.
  • For the Falcons, Kristel Chaves scored the opener from a free kick, while Natalia Salas scored the game winner. Andrea Garcia and Chaves assisted the final goal. Garcia and Tatiana Leggiero finished with a team best four shots, while Salas and Garcia had two shots on goal each. Valeria Delgado recorded three saves in net.
  • Both teams managed 12 shots in the match with, with UTPB posting seven shots on goal and the Greyhounds had four shots on goal. ENMU recorded more fouls (8-6) and corners (5-2) in the match.
