Oklahoma Christian Stifles Men's Soccer, 1-0

The Greyhounds were just held to two shots on goal during a wet evening in Portales.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer played out a difficult 1-0 loss to Oklahoma Christian in wet conditions on Saturday evening at Greyhound Stadium. Eastern drops to 4-7-5 on the season, with a 2-3-3 Lone Star Conference (LSC) standing. Meanwhile, the Eagles jump the Greyhounds in the standings with a 4-7-6 overall record and a 3-3-2 conference record.

A lackluster first half didn't bare many clear chances for either team. Felix Drizinsky had a shot on goal in the opening period, but neither team was dominate in the first half. During the second half, Oklahoma Christian turned up the pressure, drawing eight corners in the second period alone. Midway through the period, Daniel Letherby forced a save from the Eagles keeper with the first clear chance at a goal for either team. In the 71st minute, the mounting corner kicks paid off with OC scoring directly from a corner kick as a looping cross flew into the back of the net. The Greyhounds couldn't tie the game before the final whistle, falling to OC 1-0.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Drizinsky and Letherby led the Greyhounds with three shots each, with one shot on goal each. Hugo Sacco made six saves in net for ENMU, facing 20 shots in the game.
  • Elliott Forestier scored the game winning goal for OC, providing three shots and a team best three shots on goal. Joep Claassen had a match high four shots, with Lawson Ford adding three shots. Fynn Koerner made two saves in the clean sheet against the Greyhounds.
  • Oklahoma Christian provided 20 shots compared to the eight of the Greyhounds. OC also had more corners, 9-3, and more fouls, 12-8. The Eagles picked up three cards in the match, including a red card after a pair of yellows, while ENMU had one yellow card.
