Garvin Ties Kills Record; Stubbs Records Triple-Double In Battle With Pioneers

Mikaela Garvin ted the single game kills record with 29 kills, while Gracelyn Stubbs provided their 3rd triple-double of the season.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball were on the wrong side of a thrilling five-set match with Wayland Baptist, 3-2, on Tuesday evening at Greyhound Arena. The Greyhounds now stand at 10-19 on the season, while the Pioneers move to 13-12 overall this campaign.
 
The Greyhounds and Pioneers battled back and forth the entire match with Eastern falling in five sets in the end: 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 13-15. During the opening set, both teams were back and forth, but four straight points at the end of the frame gave ENMU a one set lead. During the second frame, WBU used a string of five straight points to stay in front, winning the set by five points. In the middle frame, the Greyhounds led 22-19 but Wayland Baptist closed the set on a 6-1 streak.
 
Eastern fought back in the fourth set, keeping the match alive with a 5-1 run after trailing 21-20 to send the match to a 5th set. In the final frame, Eastern fell behind early but slowly worked the score back to tied. After ENMU took a 12-11 lead, Wayland Baptist went on a 4-1 run with three straight points at the end to take the match.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Mikaela Garvin had a career night with 29 kills and four total blocks. Stubbs added 13 kills to the attack, while dishing out a team best 26 assists.
  • Helping ENMU in assists, Kayla Ison provided 24 assists during the match.
  • Rylee Mapes led all competitors with 20 digs during the match, while Stubbs hit double-figures with 10.
  • Stubbs led the blocking effort at the net with five total blocks in the match, with Deziree Flowers providing three total blocks.
  • Eastern outpaced the Pioneers for kills (70-64), digs (60-57), and blocks (9-6).

  • Garvin tied the Greyhound single match kill record with 29. The mark is tied with the 29 kills from Lindsey Schiely against Angleo State on Oct. 8, 2005. Along with their four blocks, Garvin posted the third most points in a single match, with 32.0 points being the most since Lindsey Schiely had 34.0 points in 2005.
  • Garvin posted a career record of 29 kills and 32.0 points in the match.
  • Meanwhile, Stubbs eclipsed their third triple-double of the season becoming the 5th player in all of Division II to record three triple-doubles this season (26 assists, 13 kills, and 10 digs). Their first triple-doubles came against UTPB (20 assists, 15 kills, and 13 digs; 9/8/23) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (18 assists, 14 kills, and 10 digs; 10/21/23)
  • Mapes played all over the floor tonight, setting a season best for digs (20), assists (4), and total blocks (2). The 20 digs from Mapes marked a new career mark for the senior. Kinzie Davis tied a personal best seven kills during the match.
  • Ison breached 20+ assists for the eighth time this season.
  • Sedona Stinson played their first match for the Greyhounds this season.
  • The Greyhounds now have a week break before returning to the floor. ENMU will play their next match on Nov. 8 as they travel to face Lubbock Christian, with first serve set for 5 p.m.
