PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer knocked off #16 St. Mary's, 4-2, thanks to a hat-trick from
Nick Huenig on Saturday evening at Greyhound Stadium. ENMU improve to 3-5-2 overall, while picking up their first conference win of the season (1-1-0). The Rattlers drop to 6-3-2 on the season, with a record of 0-1-1 in conference play.
The Rattlers struck first in the first period, but
Daniel Letherby equalized midway through the first half. Just three minutes later, substitutes
Matteo Azambuja and Huenig combined to give ENMU a 2-1 advantage. Just before the break, Huenig increased the Hounds advantage with a well taken goal as ENMU led 3-1 at halftime.

St. Mary's turned up the pressure offensive, grabbing a goal back in the 60
th minute (3-2 ENMU). Both teams continued to push for the next goal as both teams entered the final ten minutes. Just five minutes from the full-time whistle, Huenig completed their hat-trick and sealed the game for ENMU to come away 4-2 winners over St. Mary's.
NOTABLE STATS
- Huenig finished with three goals, while Letherby started the Greyhounds scoring. Felix Drizinsky set up the first goal, while Azambuja, Loris Tsiatsipy, and Letherby provided a helping hand in the final three scores. Huenig led the match with six shots and four shots on goal from the bench. Paul Waschkau made three stops in net for the Greyhounds.
- Adam Aboohamidi and Cian Foley registered a goal each, while Foley and Avery Estell each had an assist. As for shots, Aboohamidi, Foley, and Gael Gallegos finished with two shots.
- Eastern New Mexico held the edge for shots in the match (14-8), along with shots on goal (8-5). ENMU picked up four yellow cards in the match committing nine fouls, while St. Mary's were carded once with three fouls.

"I thought the energy and effort were on point today," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Brandon Misuraca. "Our substitutes made immediate impacts, while being able to play on the front foot was highly beneficial for a young group. Overall, we will enjoy the night after a fairly good game," said Misuraca.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Eastern beat St. Mary's for the first time since 2007, when the Greyhounds bested the Rattlers 2-1 at home.
- ENMU knocked off a national ranked opponent at home for the second consecutive season, following the team's 1-0 victory over #8 Midwestern State in 2022.
- Huenig bagged his first career hat-trick, along with opening his account for the season. The striker becomes just the 5th Greyhound to record a hat-trick, and the first against nationally ranked opposition. It marks the first three goal performance since Ryan McManus bagged three goals against Southern Nazarene in 2015.
- Letherby picked up their first collegiate goal and assist, while Tsiatsipy and Azambuja drew their first assists of the campaign. Drizinsky posted their second assist of the season.
- Seven Greyhounds played the entire 90 minutes of the match: Mathieu Beuvain, Letherby, Abraham Lopez, Ludwig Scherer, Cooper Tyler, Colin Ulrich, and Waschkau.
- Eastern don't venture far for their next conference match, traveling to Lubbock Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 11, to face the Chaparrals. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (MST)
