Volleyball Tripped Up At St. Edward's, 3-0

Untimely runs by the Hilltoppers Sink ENMU

AUSTIN, Texas – Eastern New Mexico concluded a weekend road trip with a 3-0 loss against St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon at the Recreation & Athletics Center on the campus of St. Edward's. ENMU falls to 8-12 on the season, while slipping to 0-7 in conference play. SEU moves to 7-11 overall with a 3-3 LSC standing.
 
The Hilltoppers picked up a win in straight sets over the Greyhounds: 25-19, 25-13, and 25-22. St. Edward's used a five-point lead early and slowly captured the first set over ENMU. For the second frame, ENMU narrowed the Hilltoppers lead to just four points midway in the set, but a 9-1 run sealed the stanza for SEU. Both teams used large runs to exchange the lead from each other. In the end St. Edward's completed the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Mikaela Garvin paced the Greyhounds with eight kills, with Gracelyn Stubbs added seven to the total kill count. Kayla Ison ran the offense with 16 assists in the match.
  • On defense, Getsemani Carrasco compiled 14 digs in the match, while Halle Sanders contributed 12 digs. Stubbs led the team with three total blocks, while Deziree Flowers, Garvin, and Sanders each had two block assists.
  • The Hilltoppers outmatched the Greyhounds for aces (11-1), with ENMU supplying more blocks than SEU (5-4). Both teams posted 54 digs in the three-set match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • ENMU will look to bounce back in its next match at Midwestern State on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The midweek match will end the four-game road stretch, with an expected start time of 5 p.m. (MST).
