PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball dropped a nonconference home game to No. 15 Fort Lewis Saturday night, 82-62.
Despite leading at the half (34-33), ENMU could not hold the consistent shooting from FLC. The Skyhawks shot 14-of-31 (45.2%) in the second half, propelling them to a 49-28 advantage over the final 20 minutes.
"We'll bounce back and be ready for next week," said head coach
Brent Owen in his interview with Doc Elder after the game. "We're doing a good job taking care of the ball. I feel like we can make some adjustments and find our way."
Fort Lewis hit 12 three-pointers on the night, including nine in the second half alone. The visitor's also outrebounded ENMU, 45-29. When asked about one area for improvement after the contest, Owen stressed on rebounding. Guard
Lyron Bennett led the team with seven rebounds.
Three different players scored in double figures for Eastern.
Greg Johnson put up 11 points and four assists. Both
Jahcoree Ealy and
Mario Whitley added ten points.
One thing that the Greyhounds did well was take care of the basketball as they only committed nine turnovers.
Eastern New Mexico will not have to wait long for a rematch with FLC as the next two games will be played in Durango, Colo. for the Skyhawk Classic. The event tests ENMU with a game against Adams State Friday evening and a rematch with the Skyhawks Saturday afternoon.
