Greyhounds continue offensive dominance in win over St. Mary's

Eastern New Mexico stays unbeaten in LSC play defeating a physical Rattlers squad

PORTALES, N.M. – For the third time this season, Eastern New Mexico hit the century mark in a 101-82 win over St. Mary's.

"We are being really unselfish right now," said head coach Brent Owen after the game. "That's a really good sign early on in the season."

Coming into the game, the Rattlers were the top rebounding team in the Lone Star Conference. Those who follow ENMU men's basketball closely will know that head coach Brent Owen preaches one thing consistently.

Rebounding.

Eastern grabbed 47 boards compared to 36 for St. Mary's.

Freshman Conrad Luczynski continued his breakthrough weekend with his first double-double. The seven-foot force underneath the basket finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while adding two assists and two blocks.

"It feels really good. It's all thanks to my teammates," said Luczynski after the win. "It was a fight, a physical game."

Luczynski has now hit the double-digit scoring mark for two-straight games.

"I'm glad to have him," said Jahcoree Ealy when asked about the freshman. "He is fun to play with."

The victory extends ENMU's series advantage over the Rattlers, 4-2. The 101 points are the most scored against StMU since a 79-41 win in December 2004.

One of the most effective players on the court for the Hounds was Jahcoree Ealy. The senior from Arkansas posted a career-high 31 points (11-13 FG) along with five rebounds and four assists.

The wing led a transition offense that scored 39 fast break points.

"When he gets a running start, he (Jahcoree Ealy) is almost impossible to stop without fouling him," said Owen when asked about the senior's performance in transition. "He is effective."

Ealy also connected on his first three-point shot of the season later in the second half.

"It felt great to finally see the ball go through the net," said the senior on the shot. "I've been working on it."

Owen also praised his big men for their weekend effort. Jose Murillo, Jaxon Koroll, and Luczynski combined for 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting. They grabbed 17 of the team's 46 rebounds and four of the program's five blocks.

"I'm just really excited about those guys," said Owen when asked about their teamwork. "I thought St. Mary's post players were really good on film. Our guys were able to handle them inside one-on-one."

Błażej Czerniewicz was the other Greyhound in double digits as he connected for ten points. The Polish sophomore went 2-for-4 from behind the arc to help Eastern finish 9-for-17 on the night from deep.

Five other players scored at least eight points on the night. Those include Mario Whitley (9 pts), Murillo (8 pts), Lyron Bennett (8 pts), Greg Johnson (8 pts), and Junior Hodnett (8 pts).

The Greyhounds are one of five programs undefeated in conference play after the first weekend of action. Four of those are in the west division.

ENMU will travel east to face UT Tyler Thursday and DBU Saturday. Stay up to date on the latest information on the program through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
