KINGSVILLE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball were on the wrong end of a pitchers duel, falling 2-0 against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field. ENMU shift to 3-6 overall, with the same conference record. The Javelinas improve to 5-5 on the season, and 4-5 in LSC action.
The Greyhounds were the first team to have a chance to score the games first run, but good defensive play from the Javelinas cut it down. With a runner on second and two outs,
Braeton Matthews singled to left field to send the runner to the plate. A good throw from the TAMUK left fielder struck down the runner with a play at the plate to keep the score at 0-0.
Â
In the next half inning, Texas A&M-Kingsville used a pair of hits along with a stolen base to push the game first run across. The pair of hits pushed the Javelinas ahead 1-0 after two innings. From there both pitchers were outstanding, as three scoreless innings pasted by. Both teams were able to pick up hits in that time, but weren't able to come away with a run.

FROM THE SOURCE
"A pitchers dual today with the wind blowing in. De La Riva threw a hell of a game, but we couldn't get much going offensively," said Head Baseball Coach Riley Price. "On a day like today, you have to keep the ball out of the air and make their defense work harder than we did. Pretty questionable call at home in the second inning against us to get the first run across, but we have to put together more quality at bats going into tomorrow," said Price.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- B. Matthews provided a season high two hits in the game.
- De La Riva threw a season long 8.0 innings in the loss, tying a career best. The sophomore finished his outing with zero walks, also a career best. During the defeat, De La Riva pitched his second complete game of his career.
- The Greyhounds look to respond on Saturday, Feb. 18, as ENMU will face the Javelinas in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. of game one.
